YUSUF BALOGUN - PYTHON DANCE

Nature is not to be resisted,
hunger is nature -
but what if there is no food ?
Then,the python break down in
jiggles,

jiggles that we call dance -
to attract the onlookers,
rats,rabbits,hares..
and -
the python will devour its
onlookers.

But -
only a mad man dances without
rhythmic beats,
now the python is dancing -
who plays the music ?
Is the music a dirge
or a lullaby ?
Who sounds the drum ?
For some days,
even the drummer would go
weary..
but before then ?
The python -
non venomous,
like an infant squeeze his mother's
breast,
shall it squeeze life out of its prey
-
but pythons don't eat men,
it is not pride -
it is nature.
Pythons eat wild bodies,
wild bodies and primal souls.
By a crush,
the victims die.
Nationality is humanity,
humanity is divinity.
The gain of the winner
is the pain of the loser,
no one wins a war.
Life is not balanced,
war is not that fair lady by the
roadside -
war is a display of power,
sacrifices. survival.

But at the end,
we all know who falls.
War is not the _gidigbo_ in the
village square,
war is not the cries at Wuse
market,
war is not the shouts of
our Mumu don do..
War is the rip apart of brothers
that can't deliberate on a round
table,
war is the thoughts that emanates
from the skin
not the heart,
war is the python dance.
When the python dances,
the tempo increases -

but who are the preys ?
who are the preys -
if not _iya alata_ and _baba
eleran_
who ventured into the market
for survival
but ended up meals for the survival
of another survivor ?
Frogs are no longer for dinner,
pintles and nipples are for dinner.
And when the python is overfed..
its host will devour it.
Like a predation,
we all know who loses alas.
I have a dream,
forever painted on the walls of
memories -
with the blood of Martin Luther,
that blood shed by the white
supremacist.
Imperialism has been crushed,
by the sacrifice of Mahatma Gandhi

A long walk to freedom,
to crush Apartheid..
will this nation
survive a second civil war ?
It will pass..
for all these have passed
and this python dance,
shall pass
but -
will we still be here ?
